DeviantArt is an online site which allows people to share their passion for art through various styles and methods. The site carries a variety of art ranging from images, videos, stories, and journals. Through this passion for creative ideas a community is formed. DeviantArt only shows the hottest, newest and most popular pieces which is based on how many likes the piece has. The images, literature, and film are usually personally inspired, fanfiction, or based on the world. The artworks range from written journals and books to images and animation. I personally use the sight to look at fantasy landscapes and Supernatural fanfiction. Many people freely post their art but there are just as many people who are selling art. The shopping section is like the amazon for art.
The comments section provides the viewers the space to critique or discuss the piece itself and the topic. However, the forum is the greatest place of interaction on DeviantArt. In forum discussion, most replies are from people who already know and understand the topic. The more controversial the topic the more debate you will likely see. The discussions don’t have to be art based, they can be on any topic. Although there are administrators who are able to restrict threads and replies in the forum. Groups can also be made on the site and can be on any subject but usually the groups are made up of people that make up a certain fan base or share similar interests.
